Proton Video Compressor is a local video compression tool. It reads videos from your Photo Library, compresses them on-device, and saves the result back to your Photo Library or Files. All processing happens entirely on your device. No video content is ever transmitted to any server.
If you opt in, we collect anonymised usage events to understand how people use the app and to fix problems. Examples of events tracked:
Events are tagged with a randomly generated pseudonymous ID, not your name, email, Apple ID, or any directly identifying information. This ID is assigned by the analytics SDK and persists per install; it cannot be used by us to identify you as an individual. Analytics are sent to Mixpanel and Firebase Analytics.
Analytics are off by default. You must explicitly enable them in Settings > Analytics. You can disable them at any time and data collection stops immediately.
If you opt in, crash and error reports are sent to Firebase Crashlytics. These include device model, iOS version, app version, and a stack trace of the crash. Reports are associated with a per-install identifier assigned by Crashlytics; this identifier is not linked to your Apple ID or any personal identity and cannot be used by us to identify you as an individual.
Crash reporting is off by default. Enable or disable it in Settings > Crash Reports.
The app is free and supported by ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob collects device information and, if you grant tracking permission (ATT), your device's Advertising Identifier (IDFA) to serve personalised ads. If you deny tracking permission, AdMob serves contextual (non-personalised) ads only and cannot link your data across other apps or websites.

At startup, the app fetches configuration from Firebase Remote Config (e.g. minimum required app version, ad unit IDs, internal timing settings). This request contains standard HTTP metadata (IP address, device type) but no personal information is stored or associated with you by us.
The following preferences are stored locally on your device and never transmitted:
Note: Firebase Analytics may derive a coarse, country or region-level location from your device's IP address as part of standard analytics processing. This is done by Google's infrastructure; we do not receive or store your location ourselves. For details, see Firebase's privacy documentation.
Although the app reads video metadata (including any GPS coordinates embedded in a video asset by your camera), this metadata is only used locally to preserve it in the compressed output. It is never read by us, transmitted, or stored outside your device.
The following third-party SDKs are integrated. Each operates under its own privacy policy.

We do not sell your data to any third party. Data shared with the services above is shared only to the extent necessary for those services to operate (e.g. delivering ads, storing crash logs) and under data processing agreements where applicable.
Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework requires apps to ask for your permission before tracking your activity across other companies' apps and websites. We request this permission in compliance with ATT.
If you allow tracking: Google AdMob may use your device's Advertising Identifier (IDFA) to deliver personalised ads and to measure ad campaign effectiveness across apps and websites.
If you deny tracking: We will not access your IDFA. AdMob will serve contextual ads only, based on content in the app rather than your cross-app behaviour. No data will be shared with data brokers for advertising purposes.
You can change your ATT decision at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, additional protections apply under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or UK GDPR.

When you first launch the app, if you are in the EEA or UK, you will be shown a consent form powered by Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP). This form explains what data AdMob collects and allows you to choose whether personalised advertising is enabled. You can revisit this choice at any time via Settings > Manage Ad Preferences.
Data processed by Mixpanel, Firebase, and Google AdMob may be transferred to and stored in the United States and other countries. These transfers are safeguarded by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission, or equivalent mechanisms under UK data protection law.
As an EEA or UK resident you have certain rights under GDPR. However, because we do not collect any directly identifying personal data, we are generally unable to locate or retrieve records tied to a specific individual. The analytics and crash data we process is linked only to a pseudonymous install-level identifier that we cannot map back to you.
For rights relating to data held by our third-party processors, we recommend contacting those providers directly via their official privacy channels.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. To contact us with any privacy question, see Section 11.
This app is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EEA where applicable). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Consent forms are configured to exclude under-age users as required by applicable law.
Because we do not collect directly identifying information, we cannot pinpoint or delete data associated with a specific child. If you are a parent or guardian with concerns, disabling analytics and crash reporting in Settings and deleting the app will stop any further data collection from that device.
Regardless of where you are located, you have the following controls:

We may update this privacy policy as the app evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where required by law, notify you through the app or by other means.
Continued use of the app after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. If you do not agree with the changes, please stop using the app and contact us.
